# Can You Add Files to Contacts

Yes — attach any file to a contact, company, deal, or custom object record and keep all your documents in one place.

## Overview
Every record in Breakcold has a dedicated **Files** tab where you can upload and store attachments — proposals, contracts, screenshots, spreadsheets, or any other file type. Files are tied to the individual record, making them easy to find in context.
| Works on all object types — The Files tab is available on People, Companies, Deals, and any custom object you've created.
## Step 1 — Open the Files Tab
1. Open any record — a contact, company, deal, or custom object.
2. Click the **Files** tab in the record navigation bar. The tab shows a count of attached files (e.g. *Files 0*) that updates as you add files.

## Step 2 — Upload a File
There are two ways to add a file:
| **Method** | **How to use it** |
| ---- |
| **Drag & Drop** | Drag a file from your computer and drop it anywhere in the Files tab area. |
| **Upload button** | Click **Upload a file** (in the empty state) or **Upload files** (top right) to open your system file picker and select a file. |
The system file picker opens when using the Upload button — browse to any folder and select the file you want to attach.
## Step 3 — Confirm the Upload
1. After selecting a file, it uploads immediately. A **"1 file uploaded"** confirmation toast appears at the bottom of the screen.
2. The file appears in the Files list showing: **file name**, the **team member** who uploaded it, the **upload date and time**, and the **file size**.
3. The **Files** tab counter in the navigation bar updates to reflect the new total.
"1 file uploaded" toast — the file appears immediately in the list with the uploader's name, timestamp, and file size.

## Deleting a File
1. Click the **delete icon** (trash) on the right side of the file row.
2. The file is removed immediately and a **"File deleted"** toast confirms the action.
"File deleted" toast — the file is removed from the record immediately. This action cannot be undone.
| Note — File deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Make sure you no longer need the file before deleting it.
