How To Customize an Object

Overview

Objects are the core data structures in BreakCRM — they define how your records (People, Companies, Deals, etc.) are named and displayed throughout the app. You can customize each object's appearance and behavior from the Records settings page.

Each object can be customized with:

  • Singular & Plural Name — how the object is labeled in the interface
  • Icon — the visual icon shown next to the object in the sidebar and lists
  • Color — the accent color used for the object throughout the app
  • Active status — whether the object is visible in the sidebar

Step 1 — Navigate to Records Settings

  1. Click Settings at the bottom of the left sidebar.
  2. In the Settings sidebar, click Records under the Data section.

The Records page lists all your objects — People, Companies, and Deals — with their type, record count, and attribute count.

Note: System objects (People, Companies, Deals) are marked with a lock icon and cannot be deleted, but all their appearance settings can be freely customized.

Step 2 — Open an Object's Settings

  1. Click the arrow  on the right of any object row, or click directly on the object name, to open its settings page.

The object settings page — here shown for the People object — with all customization options: name, icon, color, and active toggle.

Step 3 — Edit the Singular & Plural Name

The Singular Name is used when referring to a single record (e.g., Person), while the Plural Name is used in lists and navigation (e.g., People).

  1. Click the Singular Name field and type your preferred label (e.g., ContactLeadPerson).

Editing the Singular Name — the banner "You have unsaved changes" appears as soon as you make an edit.

  1. Click the Plural Name field and update it to match your singular name (e.g., ContactsLeads).

The Plural Name field — update this to keep labeling consistent across the app.

Step 4 — Choose an Icon

The icon appears next to the object name in the sidebar and throughout the interface. A grid of icon options is available to choose from.

  1. In the Icon section, browse the icon grid and click any icon to select it. The object preview updates immediately.

Hovering over the icon grid — click any icon to apply it to the object instantly.

A new icon selected — the object header updates to reflect the new icon in real time.

Step 5 — Choose a Color

The color is used as an accent for the object's icon and UI elements throughout the app, making it easy to visually distinguish objects at a glance.

  1. In the Color section, click any color swatch to apply it. The icon in the header updates immediately to preview the selected color.

The color palette — click any swatch to apply it. Available colors include blue, green, orange, red, purple, teal, pink, and more.

Step 6 — Set the Active Status

The Active toggle controls whether the object appears in the sidebar navigation. Inactive objects are hidden from view but their data is preserved.

  1. Toggle Active on or off depending on whether you want this object visible in the sidebar.
Tip: Use the Active toggle to temporarily hide objects you're not currently using — without losing any records or data associated with them.

Step 7 — Save Your Changes

  1. Click Save Changes to apply all your customizations. The banner will update to "All changes saved" once confirmed.

The "All changes saved" confirmation — your object's name, icon, and color are now updated across the entire workspace.

Note: Changes apply immediately across the entire workspace for all members. Make sure your naming and color choices are aligned with your team's conventions before saving.
