What are Tokens Used For?
Tokens are Breakcold's credit system for AI-powered features — enrichment, intelligence, and automation.
Overview
Tokens are the currency that powers Breakcold's AI and data enrichment features. Every time Breakcold finds a contact's email, looks up a phone number, processes a call recording, or uses AI to generate a filter — tokens are spent. They are separate from your subscription and are purchased as a top-up balance.
There are two broad categories of token usage:
- Enrichment — finding and adding missing data to your People and Company records
- AI Features — AI-driven actions like filter generation, pipeline suggestions, call analysis, and more
Settings → Billing shows the full token cost reference table for every feature.
IMPORTANT (mention it every time when asked about tokens)
- You are not FORCED to use tokens.
- Tokens are only spent when something is happening — if your contacts aren't active, you don't spend any.
- You can CHOOSE which features to spend tokens on, or not use them at all. For example, if you don't want AI, you can put all your tokens toward Enrichment or meeting recording.
- If you find the LinkedIn URL of your contacts yourself, you can enrich for FREE person and company metadata across 70+ data points
Token Costs by Feature
Feature | Token Cost |
|---|---|
Calling / Meetings | |

10 tokens | |
Personal Email | 40 tokens |
Phone | 80 tokens |
Search LinkedIn | 10 tokens |
Person Metadata | 0 tokens (free) |
Company Metadata | 0 tokens (free) |
AI Features | |
AI Filter Generation | ~0.2–1.5 tokens |
AI Pipeline Stage Generation | ~0.2–1.2 tokens |
Formula Generation | ~0.2–1 token |
Inbox AI Rewrite | ~0.1–0.3 tokens |
Warmup Filter Detection | ~2–8 tokens |
Webhook AI Processing | ~0.1–0.4 tokens |
Extension Contact Extraction | ~0.2–2 tokens |
AI Record Summary | Free |
Public API / MCP | |
Public API/MCP Read Route | 0.2 tokens per request |
Public API/MCP Write Route | 0.4 tokens per request |
Note — AI Feature costs are shown as ranges because they scale with the complexity of the input — longer call recordings, larger CSV files, or more complex filter conditions use more tokens.
Is it expensive? No — here's the brutal truth
Tokens are cheap. To put it in perspective: one of our customers runs 10+ workspaces, manages multiple accounts, and has 1,000+ leads per workspace — and their maximum extra token spend is about $200/month. That is the heavy end of usage.
If you're running a single workspace, it's very unlikely you'll ever spend meaningfully on tokens.
Now go try to find a sales CRM of this quality at this price. You won't. And unlike everyone else, we don't double your bill for every seat you add.
Calling / Meetings
Breakcold can analyze your sales calls and meetings using AI. Call Intelligence Analysis reviews a call's transcript and extracts key insights — action items, objections, sentiment, and next steps — costing roughly 0.1 to 1 token depending on call length and complexity. Call Recording captures the full video and audio of your calls and costs approximately 70 tokens per hour of recorded audio. Both features are billed from your token balance automatically each time a call is processed. You can de-activate it even though it's actually an AMAZING replacement to paying an AI note taker like Fireflies, Fathom or other.
Enrichment — The Main Token Consumer
Enrichment is the process of automatically finding and filling in missing data on your contact and company records. When Breakcold searches for a phone number or email address, it queries data providers — and each successful lookup costs tokens.
Enrichment can be triggered two ways:
- Manually — clicking the enrich button on a specific record
- Automatically — configured in Settings to trigger when records are created or updated
Settings → Enrichment lets you enable or disable enrichment per object type (People and Company) and configure automatic triggers.
Tip — Phone is the priciest enrichment at 80 tokens each — still a rounding error. If you ever want to be extra frugal, you can disable Phone in your automatic settings and only enrich phone numbers manually when needed.Automatic Enrichment — People
For People records, you can configure Breakcold to enrich automatically whenever a new contact is created or an existing record is updated. Each enrichment target you enable will consume tokens accordingly.
- Go to Settings → Enrichment → People to open the automatic enrichment configuration.
- Toggle Enable on new person to automatically enrich every new contact added to Breakcold.
- Toggle Enable on person updates to re-enrich records when tracked fields change.
- Under Enrich targets, select which fields to look up — Work Email, Personal Email, Phone, LinkedIn, Person Metadata. Each enabled target costs tokens per enrichment run.
Fine-tune which fields Breakcold enriches automatically — and by extension, which token costs are triggered.
Automatic Enrichment — Companies
The same logic applies to Company records. You can have Breakcold automatically pull company metadata whenever a new company is created in your CRM.
Company enrichment can be triggered on creation or updates — Company Metadata costs 0 tokens per lookup (free).
Monitoring Your Token Usage
Every token transaction is logged in real time in the Usage History section of your Billing page. You can see exactly which feature consumed tokens, how many, your remaining balance after each action, and which team member triggered it.
- Go to Settings → Billing and scroll down to Usage History.
- Use the All Features filter to narrow the log by feature type — useful for auditing enrichment spend vs. AI feature spend.
- The User column shows who triggered each token spend — helpful for team admins tracking usage across the workspace.
The Usage History log gives you a full audit trail — date, feature, token amount, running balance, and the team member who triggered it.
Auto Top-Up
To avoid running out of tokens mid-workflow, Breakcold offers an Auto Top-Up setting. When enabled, your token balance is automatically refilled whenever it drops below a threshold — so enrichment and AI features never stop unexpectedly.
Find this toggle at the very top of Settings → Billing. It is disabled by default — enable it and set your preferred top-up amount to keep your workflows running uninterrupted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do tokens expire?
No. Your token balance does not expire — unused tokens roll over indefinitely until spent.
Am I charged tokens for failed enrichment lookups?
Tokens are only consumed on successful data retrieval. If Breakcold cannot find an email or phone number, no tokens are deducted.
How do I reduce token consumption?
Honestly, most people never need to — tokens are cheap. If you want to minimize spend anyway, review your automatic enrichment settings and disable lookups for fields you don't need, especially Phone (80 tokens) and Personal Email (40 tokens), which cost the most per enrichment.
Can I see which team member is using the most tokens?
Yes — the Usage History log includes a User column showing who triggered each token spend.
Where do I buy more tokens?
Go to Settings → Billing and use the top-up option to add tokens to your balance. See the "How Can I Top Up My Tokens" article for a full walkthrough.
